Twitch: (Part 2) Not Just Entertainment
See Part 1 Here: Not Just Entertainment
So two years ago I wrote a blog discussing the affect that Twitch.tv has on people. Since then, my opinion on this has only improved and thus I'd like to take a moment to touch on that and extend my previous blog here.
If you read my previous blog, you'll know that I explained how Twitch can actually be a positive (and sadly sometimes negative) influence on streamers and viewers alike. The social aspect of being able to interact with the streamer live can make people feel less lonely, involved, and 'part of something' outside their every day lives. Imagine you have had one of the worst days you can remember... and you finally get a moment to sit down, and turn on your favorite streamer. This streamer might make you laugh, might cheer you up with positive words, ask the chat to spam hearts in support for you... anything. Now imagine you didn't get to watch that stream; exactly, you missed out on something that could help distract you from that awful day.
The Twitch community as a whole (for the most part) is GREAT for at the very least causing you some distraction. And at best, give you entertainment that makes you laugh or feel better. Then you have to consider some of the individual streamers that take this concept and grow it even further. I will name a few streamers and examples below... but keep in mind, this is a handful out of thousands. If you search long enough, I'm certain you'll find a streamer or two that is -perfect- for what you need.
MiltontPike1 - Primary Game: GTA 5 FiveM RP
This streamer can be a bit controversial sometimes on if you love him or not. The reason for this being, he plays characters that are unique, sometimes obnoxious, and full of 'character'. He does amazing voice acting for each character as well, like Kiki Chanel or Bill Ding.
The reason I am mentioning him, is for a couple things. He is a Canadian vet, and his real life backstory is actually fairly tragic. Once in a while, he will take a moment to have 'real talk' with his viewers. He goes into this history, touching on things like suicidal tendencies, and the deaths of friends. He then explains how Twitch and his community helped him through those dark times, and got him back to the point he's at now where he can focus on the positive, and 'give back' to people.
Not only is he inspiring in how he speaks, but he also does entertaining things such as playing his recorder/flute on stream... and WOW is he good. He's also been known to do "sneak attacks" on other streamers, encouraging both his community and the target's community to do a "support bomb" in a sense. He asks everyone to just gift 1 sub to someone, or donate just $1. If you can imagine... two communities doing this, can lead to quite a nice bonus tip for that day. I've seen him twice now, make another streamer cry from this. So if you're looking for a streamer that will make you laugh, and lift you up... Milton is a perfect choice.
Grimmmz - Primary Games: FPS
This was one of the first streamers on Twitch I started watching regularly. While some streamers change over the years... honestly, Grimmmz hasn't. He started off positive, and he continues to be positive. Sure, he'll have his moments of 'game rage' and frustration as many do. However, when it comes to his chat and community... regardless of the large viewership, you'll see that its managed well and negativity kept removed. They even have a chat command they use to remind people to 'keep it positive'.
I've seen Grimmmz do several things considered positive or charitable, but I'll point out a few that stuck in my memory.
He's open and inclusive to anyone. He is always down to play with small streamers, big streamers, and viewers. I once watched him use 'Ring of Elysium' (a free BR) as a snowboarding competition for his viewers... and you could tell they were all having an amazing time with it. 'Out race the avalanche was also done, though they quickly learned it was impossible... lol. But that didn't mean they didn't have fun trying.
In the game 'Escape From Tarkov' I saw two incidences of charity. Once to his friend and regular game partner Anthony_Kongphan, where he bought and replaced all of Anthony's lost 'Lab' items that disappeared to a game glitch. If you don't know the game, just know that it was a very game currency expensive move. The second time, I saw Grimmmz encourage his community to help him pay back the currency of one of his viewers, who also lost nearly everything he had to a game glitch. This viewer often helped Grimmmz with gifts and such. So in a way, this was Grimmmz helping pay him back for that generosity. It was heart warming to watch hundreds of his viewers jump in game, and buy up things Grimmmz put on auction, only to then have Grimmmz turn around and give that currency over to the viewer that lost everything.
So if you like FPS, Grimmmz is not only a damn good player in that genre, but you get to be in a non-toxic atmosphere as you enjoy watching him.
AuroraPeachy - Primary Games: MMO, RPG, Strategy
I'm going to keep this one brief, but only because you'll see that I mention this streamer very often in my other blogs. I encourage you to go read those blogs and get to know Peachy even better.
Alas, the reason I am dropping her name here is because in my personal opinion... she might be one of the most positive people on Twitch. She has an amazingly sweet and funny personality, she tries to get to know her viewers on a personal level when she can, and she takes part in charities OFTEN and succeeds greatly at raising money for those charities. For example, her St Jude charity was one of the top raisers with her community. So if you'd like to settle into a morning streamer that will just make you feel good in general... she's the one for you.
So there are just a few examples of the individual positivity you can find on Twitch. Many times while sitting in a stream, I will see someone express they've had a bad day, and watching that streamer made them feel better or at least not alone while they go through it. Twitch is not just entertainment... its a community. With every community, you'll have your toxic bunch, but in Twitch, its as easy as turning off one stream and moving on to another to find what's right for you. Don't settle for toxic; you'll be rewarded much more by finding a positive community instead.
I'll list off a few more streamers from my 'favorites' list on Twitch that I tend to see are usually more on the positive side of things. I hope you find one that's right for you, and thank you for taking the time to read my blogs as usual!
Positive Twitch Streamers:
Kismet, p4wnyhof, BaneofSpades, drunkenuff, Banlish, BogOtter, Thadrius, Fairlight_Excalibur, Thijs, TexCubSF, F1Partisan
